Why I Can’t Imagine Working Anywhere Else

I’ve been stationed at Worthing Coworking for a couple of months now, with a permanent desk (luckily for me because it’s now piled up with work and snacks – see photo) and I cannot imagine working from home, alone, ever again.

The reasons are simple. I’ve got more done in the past couple of months than I ever would have achieved from my home office. Everyone who works here is lovely, and office politics is a non-existent concept.

So, when we’re not getting our heads down to work, we’re busy helping someone else in the room find a solution to a problem, having a laugh, trying to find bigger and better ways of winding up Simon and generally enjoying our lovely office space.

Coworking takes on the same office rhythm as conventional company spaces. The day ebbs and flows, with long periods of quiet while we all get on with our projects. Then Dave Rosam will amble out into the middle of the room and say ‘I need real coffee, anyone want one?’ and go fire up the coffee machine he kindly donated to our kitchen.

The other day, I was walking from the kitchen back to my desk, with a cuppa, thinking about the little chat I’d just had with James about something techie that had completely gone over my head and I thought, I’m happy, really happy to be here. And without wanting to put too tree huggy a spin on things I thought, I feel welcome, I feel energised by this place, like I can make whatever I set my mind to happen.

Occasionally, I’ll look up from my desk, at all the other heads bent over their laptops or having a chat and my overriding emotion is one of pride. We are all here, earning our mortgage money of our own free will. We’re all self disciplined enough to help ourselves and unselfish and generous enough to want to help others who work here.

So why would I want to go back to working in my lonely home office, where I only have the radio for company and the odd presenter to shout at?
